Hotel boss Mads Eriksson is not looking forward to the first Christmas since losing his wife. His six-year-old daughter Sofia has lost her belief in Christmas magic along with her mother, and he has no idea what to do. Why I Chose This Book
When I saw an opening for this book and read the synopsis I knew I just had to join in. It sounded like the perfect Christmas romance book to read!
First Initial Thoughts
Katherine did an amazing job setting the atmosphere and really making you feel like you are a part of the cafe. You could tell the instant attraction between Iona and Mads when they met. I appreciated it was not love at first sight. But it was so adorable how Iona and Mads first talked about each other like you would on a first few dates.
Iona was a dedicated business owner and I loved how she made sure every little detail was accounted for. She was also adamant about making the cafe look all Christmas-y. I just loved that. I knew if I had a cafe I would go all out on the decorations! I also enjoyed that it was a chocolate cafe so I liked that it was unique. Not only was she a great business owner, but she had compassion and a wonderful heart.
Mads, in my opinion, should win dad of the year award. I can't imagine losing a spouse and then having to raise a child all by yourself. That takes a lot of courage, love, and dedication. He was also a dedicated business owner who put his work to a high standard but he was also an easy going guy. And I liked that about him.
Sophia was just adorable. She sounded like the cutest little girl that just adored her father. My heart ached for her though because after her mother died she lost all hope in miracles. To have a child at just 6 loose hope in life is just heartbreaking. I can't even imagine what it is like losing a parent at that age.
Katherine did a great job in describing the cafe and pretty much everywhere in the book! She really got you into the Christmas spirit with all the decorations, holiday parties, and places to see in NY during the holidays. It made me even more excited about this upcoming holiday season. And I get excited at the first of November! ^_^
Oh my goodness everyone. ALL THE FEELS...
This was the most adorable Christmas book I have read all year! Sophia and Mads are definitely the Christmas couple of the year. I was rooting for them the entire book. Mads grew tremendously throughout this book. He realized that even though he loved his wife, he had to move on and know that his wife would have wanted him to be happy. Iona learned that work is yes important, but ultimately the most important thing in life, after all, is love.
Sophia became attached to Iona quickly and I appreciated that tremendously. Especially since Sophia just lost her mother only a year prior. I admired that Sophia was willing to let Iona into her life after such a tragedy. I think that helped them bond closer.
I absolutely loved the ending. It ended on a good note. So much that I want to know what happens with Sophia, Mads, and Iona! I hope the author has a sequel up her sleeve!
